What Kalima Shahadat Teaches Us
Kalima Shahadat is the testimony of faith. The word shahadat means bearing witness, and in this kalima a Muslim openly declares that belief with the heart and the tongue. It adds two beautiful details to the first kalima: Allah is alone with no partner, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His servant as well as His Messenger.
This testimony is also the heart of the adhan and is repeated by Muslims throughout life. Teaching children the second kalima helps them understand that faith is not silent only; a believer proudly witnesses to it. Recite it slowly with your child and explain the words servant and Messenger in simple language.
